[ In short ]
- Fyxer is the better pick if you want to keep Gmail or Outlook: it installs on top of the inbox you already have, sorts it, drafts replies in your tone and takes meeting notes.
- Fyxer costs US$22.50 (Starter) or US$37.50 (Professional) per user per month billed annually, on top of your email subscription; it drafts but never sends.
- Skein replaces the email provider instead: EU-hosted mail on your domain with an agent that drafts follow-ups and, by default, sends them only once you approve.
- Skein is pre-launch: founders can reserve a spot now and try the demo today.
01Fyxer or Skein: the short answer
Fyxer is an AI assistant for the inbox you already have. You connect your Gmail or Outlook account, and it sorts incoming mail into folders, writes draft replies in your tone, and joins your calls as a notetaker. Nothing about your email provider changes. Skein is the email provider itself: it hosts your domain’s mail in the EU and has an agent built in that keeps every conversation moving.
If moving email is off the table, Fyxer is the simpler choice and installs in minutes. If you are setting up company email, or ready to leave your current provider, you can have the mailbox and the agent in one product.

03Where Fyxer is the better choice
- Nothing to move. No DNS, no migration, no new mail app. If your team is settled on Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, Fyxer adds AI to it in a few minutes.
- Meeting notes. Fyxer joins your calls and writes notes. Skein books meetings in the thread but does not take notes.
- Inbox sorting. Fyxer files incoming mail into categories so the important messages surface. For people drowning in volume, that alone saves time.
- Available today. There is a free trial now. Skein is not open yet.
04Where Skein is different
It notices the quiet thread, then sends when you say so
Fyxer drafts replies to mail that comes in. Skein also watches the threads where nothing came in: the quote nobody answered, the investor who went quiet after the first call, the candidate waiting on next steps. It drafts the follow-up in your tone and says why it thinks one is due.
Fyxer stops at the draft: by its own description, it cannot send email. That is a sensible safety line. We drew ours differently: nothing is sent without your OK by default, but the OK can be one reaction in Slack or a reply in WhatsApp, and then it goes out, with a few seconds to undo. For contacts you choose, you can let it send on its own.
Email and agent, one subscription
With an assistant you pay twice per person: once for the mailbox, once for the AI on top. Skein is one product, priced per person with the agent, with cheaper mailbox-only seats for teammates who only need an address. The plan is on the pricing section.

Hosted in the EU
Skein runs your mail and the agent in Frankfurt, in the EU, and your mail is never used to train AI models. With an assistant, your mail stays wherever your provider keeps it. Our guide to GDPR and EU email hosting explains what to check.
05Who should pick which
- Pick Fyxer if you are staying on Gmail or Outlook, want inbox sorting and meeting notes, and are happy to send every draft yourself.
- Pick Skein if you are choosing where your company email lives, want it hosted in the EU, and want the follow-ups that slip through the cracks drafted and, by default, sent with one approval.
More tools of this kind are compared in AI email assistants. For the client-on-top approach, see Skein vs Superhuman.
06How to move from Fyxer to Skein
Fyxer sits on your email provider, so moving to Skein means moving the provider underneath. Skein imports your Gmail history so the agent sees every open thread from day one, and writes the DNS records for you on supported providers.
D − 2
Lower the TTL of your MX records
5 min, then wait one old TTL
Set MX (and the records you will change) to 300 seconds. Resolvers keep the old value until the old TTL runs out, often 1 to 24 hours.
D − 2
Verify the domain and add DKIM, SPF, DMARC
15 min, checks in minutes to hours
Add the new provider’s ownership TXT, its DKIM records and its include in your one SPF record. Outgoing mail can work before incoming moves.
D − 1
Create every mailbox and alias
10–60 min
Include shared addresses (hello@, invoices@) and forwarding rules. A catch-all for the first days catches the ones you forgot.
D − 1
Copy existing mail over IMAP
Hours to days per mailbox
Newest first. Gmail allows about 2.5 GB of IMAP download per user per day, so a 10 GB mailbox needs about four days. Start early.
D
Switch MX to the new provider
5 min, propagation up to 300 s
Replace the old MX records; do not leave them at a higher number. Send a test from an outside account.
D + 1 and D + 3
Run a second sync
10–30 min each
Some senders cached the old MX and delivered there. A delta copy picks up what landed late. Keep the old accounts until it finds nothing.
D + 7
Raise the TTL and close the old accounts
5 min
Set the TTL back to 3,600 seconds or more. Cancel the old provider only after the last sync came back empty.
- Create the mailboxes and shared addresses in Skein.
- Import your Gmail history (for Outlook history, ask on the founder setup call).
- Point MX records at the new provider and update SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
- Disconnect Fyxer from the old account, then reduce the old provider’s licences.
